WHAT?
Musta Norppa is a minifestival where we welcome the dark season through exciting music performances from folk to electro with a tint of Eastern Finnish traditions and carnivalesque spirit!

WHERE?
We invite you on a trip to Savonlinna, the oldest city in Eastern Finland, on the shores of lake Saimaa.
The venues are each part of the cultural history of the town. For instance the medieval castle of Olavinlinna was built to protect the eastern border and House of Olaf is a concert venue built in old locomotive depot.

PROGRAM
FRIDAY 4.11.
Opening ceremony at Olavinlinna castle (paksu bastioni)
The festival begins! Let’s enjoy the atmosphere of the medieval castle, good company, drinks and performances. Come to the gates of the castle and you will be escorted in. Doors open 20.00 and the performace starts 21.15 so that the guests coming on a later train/bus will make it.

SATURDAY 5.11.
The day begins with a special cultural experience - a Karelian short movie and a rare church bell concert. The evening means dance party!
Eastern traditions
13.00 Karelian short film Lindu, Kulttuurikellari (Olavinkatu 34). Doors and bar open 12.00.
14.00 Church bell concert, Orthodox church of Savonlinna (Olavinkatu 29)
Community art and sharing stories
15.00 Hotel Hospitz (Linnankatu 20)
Dr. Jukka-Pekka Heikkilä, a visiting scholar at Harvard and Stanford University, a professor from Bogota Colombia, often mixes science and art in his community-oriented work. He has founded Burning Stories science-art collective, which has collected stories, for example, from Burning Man art festival in the Nevada desert. At Musta Norppa's evening, Jukka-Pekka will give a talk on the importance of community art and asks participants to share stories inspired by the festival.

Dance party! at House of Olaf (Asemantie 19)
We gather at 18.00 at the Savonlinna market square to head towards the House of Olaf venue. We encourage you to have a proper dinner prior. Dress warmly as we will walk for 1 km by the lake Saimaa. The upcoming dance party will make sure you’ll be warm afterwards! Recommended dress code for evening: black :)
